Biography

James Brosher is a Bloomington, Indiana-based photographer specializing in editorial, commercial, drone and wedding photography in the American Midwest.

He received a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism, a second major in Germanic Studies and minor in History from Indiana University in 2010. After internships at the South Bend Tribune, Bloomington Herald-Times, Austin American-Statesman and Peoria Journal Star, his first full-time staff position was at the Wyoming Tribune-Eagle in Cheyenne, Wyoming. He returned to Indiana in 2012 to work as a staff photographer at the South Bend Tribune. During his two and a half years in South Bend, James documented the Michiana community as well as Notre Dame football‘s (now-vacated) 2012 undefeated regular season.

In 2014, James moved to Bloomington as a freelance photographer. His clients since that time have included The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, Chicago Tribune, The Athletic and Indianapolis Star among others.

Since late 2014, James has worked as a staff photographer for Indiana University where he producing images for University Communications and Marketing. In this role, he documents daily life on campus. His work ranges from marketing campaign photography to faculty and staff headshots to annual coverage of the Little 500 races at IU Bloomington. He is the editor and contributing photographer for IU Experience, a visual storytelling platform.

A native Hoosier, James grew up in Dunkirk, Indiana, a small glass factory town of 2,600 people in the east central region of the state. His is an Eagle Scout and a two-time Indiana College Photographer of the Year (2010, 2011). As a student, he placed third in the national Hearst Photojournalism Awards News & Sports competition.

When not pushing buttons and turning aperture rings, James enjoys spending time with his wife, two daughters and cat. He is an avid cyclist, classic film buff and vinyl collector.
