The Media School at Indiana University Bloomington invites applications for a tenure-track position in Screenwriting with secondary expertise in another form of writing such as playwriting, television writing, journalism, stand-up comedy, or sketch comedy. We welcome applicants working in drama, comedy, horror, or other innovative modes of storytelling.

We seek a candidate with a distinctive and innovative creative voice and a record of – or strong potential for – impact in the field. Impact may take many forms: addressing social issues, creating entertainment that meaningfully engages audiences, or exploring storytelling itself as an intellectual and artistic act. The successful candidate will demonstrate a well-articulate research/creative agenda comparable in rigor to scholarly research, and an understanding of the mission of an academic institution.

Beyond excellence in writing, the ideal candidate will:

  • Possess a strong grasp of production and distribution pathways to help students navigate a rapidly changing media landscape.
  • Understand the traditions of storytelling while actively engaging with emerging forms, technologies, and challenges, including the implications of AI for writing and creativity.
  • Bring insight into both the unique qualities of individual media (film, television, stage, digital) and the connections among them.
  • Demonstrate experience or clear potential in curriculum development, mentorship, and academic leadership.

This faculty member will teach in our current undergraduate film and writing curriculum and will play a key role in shaping our emerging MFA program (now in development).

The Media School at Indiana University’s flagship Bloomington campus is pleased to announce an open-rank faculty search for up to two outstanding tenure/tenure-track colleagues whose research and teaching interests are in the areas of advertising management and planning. We look forward to applications from the dynamic, innovative, and collegial across advertising management and planning topics (e.g., AI implications for buying and planning; measurement and currency; analytics and reporting, ad-tech supply chain; retail media networks; brand safety and suitability; campaign content, distribution, and effects; consumer behavior) and methodologies (e.g., explanatory social scientific; predictive machine learning; econometric; historical; cultural).

The chosen applicants will teach across The Media School’s curriculum, but primarily within the Advertising Management and Planning Track of our Bachelor of Science in Media Advertising degree. With more than 900 majors and over 200 minors from across campus, the Media Advertising degree is the most popular of the many exciting undergraduate programs offered by The Media School. Regularly taught courses will include (but are not limited to) Ad Strategy and Planning, Fundamentals of Advertising Management, Media Planning and Buying, Advanced Media Metrics and Measurement, IMC Campaign Planning, Brand Strategy and Media Management, and Advertising Issues and Research.

In sum, we seek high-performing colleagues with a stellar research record (or strong signs of the capacity to produce such a record) in the broad areas of advertising management and planning and are open to a variety of methodological and topical foci. The chosen applicant will be expected to maintain a productive research program, effectively teach both undergraduate and graduate students, and enthusiastically serve the university, profession, and wider community.

The primary criteria for this search are excellence in advertising research and teaching. However, an established record of external funding is a plus for senior applicants (i.e., advanced associate and full professors) and external funding potential is viewed favorably for junior applicants (i.e., doctoral candidates, assistant professors). External funding is conceived broadly to include government, industry, foundation, and other private sources.
