Graduate student dhakal receives SAJA 2025 scholarship

The South Asian Journalists Association has named Media School graduate student tanka dhakal as one of the recipients for its 2025 scholarship funds. He is one of the six students currently enrolled in journalism programs or in pursuit of a journalism degree who have been selected for the prestigious award.
Pursuing a graduate degree in journalism, dhakal’s concentration is in investigative journalism and is pursuing reporting techniques to bring overlooked stories of local communities to light.
Awardees were evaluated by a committee of judges based on need, interest in journalism, and interest in contributing to the SAJA community. Each winner will receive $5,000 toward their tuition, totaling an overall disbursement of $30,000 in scholarship funds this year.
Founded in 1994, SAJA represents more than 1,000 journalists of South Asian origin across the U.S. and Canada. It provides a robust network for training, inspiration, and support, not only for South Asian journalists, but for anyone covering South Asia and its diaspora.
